Your next career opportunity
As a Research Accountant at the University of Melbourne, you'll play a crucial role in supporting our research community to deliver high-quality outcomes. You'll ensure accurate, compliant, and timely financial accounting and audit services throughout the research project lifecycle. This role offers you the opportunity to develop partnerships with faculty researchers, finance managers, and external funding bodies, while contributing to process improvements that impact the entire university community.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Financial Reporting and Compliance: Prepare accurate financial reports and conduct audit activities for external sponsors, ensuring compliance with funding agreements and university policies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with University Post Award Finance Staff and Finance Managers, Grants and Contracts, and funding bodies to provide expert financial advice and support. 
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to enhance financial processes and controls.
  • Financial Analysis: Calculate and distribute income, investigate variances, and ensure accurate attribution of funds across research projects.

You will be a great fit if:

You are a detail-oriented finance professional with strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for supporting research through effective financial management.

You may also:

  • Hold tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline with subsequent experience in financial management.
  • Have demonstrated experience in multi-source account reconciliations and financial statement preparation.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Be proficient in Excel and have experience with financial management systems.
  • Demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving and process improvement.
