Communication and Engagement Coordinator

Your next career opportunity 
The Communication and Engagement Coordinator plays a pivotal role in enhancing the profile and impact of The Mabo Centre. Working closely with the Centre Manager and key stakeholders across the University and beyond, this position is responsible for shaping and delivering strategic communications that reflect the Centre’s vision, mission, and objectives. With a strong focus on media engagement, digital content, brand governance, and stakeholder relations, the role ensures that the Centre’s work is effectively communicated to diverse audiences. As a key member of the team, the Coordinator also contributes to the planning and delivery of events that foster dialogue, knowledge exchange, and meaningful engagement with First Nations communities and broader networks.

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Developing and implementing the Centre’s Communications Strategy, ensuring alignment with its vision, mission, and objectives while maintaining consistency across all internal and external communications. 
  • Managing and creating high-quality digital, print, and multimedia content, including website and social media updates, media releases, and promotional materials, in collaboration with the University’s Communications and Marketing team. 
  • Coordinating and overseeing media engagement, brand governance, and stakeholder communications, including responding to media enquiries, developing strategic messaging, and fostering strong relationships with internal and external partners. 
  • Planning and delivering key events such as symposia, conferences, and yarning circles, supporting knowledge exchange and engagement with First Nations communities, the education sector, and broader networks.

With a strategic mindset and an eye for detail, you balance creativity with precision, ensuring clarity and consistency across all communications. Your ability to manage multiple priorities with efficiency and composure enables you to thrive in a dynamic setting, where your enthusiasm for engagement and knowledge-sharing will contribute to the Centre’s growing impact. 

You also have: 

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 
  • Proven experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating communication strategies, with a strong understanding of Indigenous cultural and communication protocols. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in creating high-quality content across digital, print, and multimedia platforms, including website management and social media engagement. 
  • A track record of successfully managing media relations, coordinating events of varying scale and complexity, and collaborating with stakeholders to enhance organisational visibility.
