As the Senior Finance Business Partner at the University of Melbourne, you'll lead a team of finance professionals, providing crucial financial advice to Chancellery Portfolios. You'll partner with senior leaders to drive strategic and operational financial performance, offering insights that inform critical decisions. This role offers you the chance to make a significant impact, mentoring a high-performing team while working closely with university executives to shape financial strategy and improve business practices.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Strategic Leadership: Guide and mentor a team of Finance Business Partners and Management Accountants, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Executive Partnering: Develop strong relationships with Portfolio leaders, providing consolidated financial advice and supporting decision-making.
- Financial Analysis and Reporting: Coordinate budgeting, forecasting, and reporting processes, delivering insightful commentary on financial performance.
- Process Improvement: Drive innovations in management systems and methodologies to enhance financial practices across the university.
You may be a great fit if:
You are a strategic financial leader with a proven track record of partnering with senior executives, possessing excellent analytical skills and the ability to translate complex financial information into actionable insights for diverse stakeholders.
You may also:
- Hold a tertiary qualification in Accounting or Commerce and be CPA/CA qualified.
- Have extensive experience in coordinating complex forecasts, budgets, and workforce plans.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, adept at influencing senior management.
- Show a track record of improving business practices and leveraging data for actionable insights.
- Possess strong organisational and time management skills, thriving in a dynamic environment.
- Embody CFOG values, displaying service excellence and collaborative leadership.
- Have experience leading and developing high-performing finance teams.

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) Portfolio enables quality outcomes for students, staff and partners by delivering University-wide services and operational support to meet the organisation's evolving needs and strategic goals. The portfolio also works in partnership with teams across the University to drive innovation, transformation and improved performance, within and across functions. It is responsible for functions relating to the University’s finances, property, technology, legal and risk management, student and academic support, research and innovation services, operational performance, business services and sustainability.
