As a key member of Melbourne Law School’s Research and Industry team, the Senior Graduate Research Officer plays a leading role in the effective delivery and continuous enhancement of the Graduate Research Degree Program. Reporting to the Director, Research & Industry, and working in close partnership with the Director of Graduate Research, you will oversee all aspects of the graduate research lifecycle- from admissions, scholarships, and candidature management through to thesis submission and examination. With a strong focus on service excellence and strategic insight, you will provide expert advice to academic supervisors, graduate researchers, and senior stakeholders, whilst ensuring compliance with University policy and government regulations. The role demands exceptional organisational and analytical skills, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to develop and implement efficient, high-quality processes that support the Law School’s research objectives. Operating with considerable autonomy and initiative, you will contribute significantly to the advancement of graduate research.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating and delivering end-to-end support for the graduate research lifecycle, including admissions, scholarships, enrolments, milestone tracking, candidature variations, thesis examination, and supervisor registration and training, whilst ensuring adherence to University policy and timelines.
- Providing expert advice and strategic insights to academic supervisors, graduate researchers, and senior stakeholders; resolving complex cases; supporting graduate research enrichment activities and events; and representing the Faculty in relevant University-wide forums and communities of practice.
- Developing and maintaining efficient administrative systems, accurate records, and confidential data; conducting strategic analysis and reporting on key metrics; and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives in research support services and compliance frameworks.
- Collaborating effectively with University Shared Services and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery; editing and updating the Graduate Research Handbook and web content; and upholding Occupational Health and Safety responsibilities in line with University standards.

You may also:
- A degree with substantial subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated expertise in a technical or administrative capacity.
- Proven ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures, exercising sound judgement to resolve complex matters within established frameworks.
- Advanced organisational and administrative capabilities, including the capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines with efficiency and accuracy.
- High-level proficiency in UoM’s Student Administration Systems (StudentOne and CiA) and standard office software, particularly the Microsoft Office suite, along with the aptitude to quickly learn and adapt to new digital systems and platforms as required.
