Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Social and Moral Psychology

Your next career opportunity
The Melbourne School of Psychological Sciences is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join an ARC-funded Discovery Project led by Professor Brock Bastian, with co-supervision from Dr. Kelly Kirkland at the University of Queensland. This three-year role focuses on social and moral psychology, exploring moralisation, moral amplification, and political polarisation using diverse research methodologies, including large multinational datasets, experience sampling, and lab-based experiments. The successful candidate will contribute to innovative research, collaborate across institutions, and be integrated into the Ethics and Wellbeing research hub.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • To conduct original research within the context of the research project, independently and in collaboration with others. This includes study planning, supporting data acquisition, data processing, and data analysis.
  • To disseminate research findings through seminars, conference presentations, and publication in peer-reviewed international journals.
  • To participate in activities that strengthen the links between the University and the community.
  • To participate in administrative activities associated with School and Faculty activity, including: attending School and Faculty meetings and participating in School, Faculty and University Committees.

Are an analytical and highly organised researcher with strong interpersonal and project management skills, demonstrating the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to deliver high-quality research outcomes. They will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a keen interest in social and moral psychology, and the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders in an interdisciplinary research environment

You may also:

  • PhD in psychology or cognate discipline (or evidence of intent to submit prior to position start date)
  • Evidence of skills in a range of advanced research methods and statistical analysis, for example in multi-level modeling, experience sampling methodology, and lab-based experimental studies
  • Strong interest in research related to social and moral psychology.
  • Developing track record in independent and team-based research.
