The Lead Data Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for guiding the design, development, and implementation of engineering projects. Leading long-term squads, they provide mentorship, define technical direction, and ensure best practices are followed to maintain high-quality, scalable, and reliable solutions. This role bridges engineering and product functions, driving collaboration, solving technical challenges, and shaping the future of data engineering within the team.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide technical leadership and direction to their direct reports and the Engineering Function more broadly.
- Guide the design, development, and implementation of Engineering Function projects.
- Define the technical direction of the work and ensure that proper standards and procedures are followed, establishing and modelling technical and cultural practices within their team.
You may be a great fit if:
The successful candidate will be a strong leader with excellent organisational and planning skills, capable of managing team workloads, resolving technical disputes through consensus, and mentoring colleagues. They will have a collaborative and adaptable approach, effectively applying Agile management principles and engaging with diverse stakeholders through clear and confident communication.
You may also:
- Significant professional experience in data engineering and team leadership.
- Experience leading technical teams, overseeing collective work initiatives, and mentoring fellow colleagues.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills, ability to prioritise team workloads, and to manage competing responsibilities, skillsets and personalities within the team.
- Demonstrated ability to lead problem-solving sessions and resolve disputes on proposed technical solutions through consensus building.

The Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning is the leading educational and research institution in the Asia-Pacific region addressing the design and realisation of inhabited environments. It actively seeks to extend the linkages between education, research and practice in the built environment, and maintains excellent and extensive relationships with members of the built environment professions, government, professional associations and the wider community.
