Research Fellow, Urban Resilience

About the Role
The Research Fellow will join the Melbourne Centre for Cities and the Informal Urbanism Research Hub to contribute to the Bottom-Up Urban Resilience project, funded by the Australian Research Council. This role focuses on exploring how community networks influence infrastructure governance to enhance urban resilience, with a particular emphasis on fieldwork, research, and engagement activities. The successful candidate will have experience in urban resilience policy, community engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration, and will work closely with the Chief Investigators to drive the project forward.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborate with and support the CIs in planning and delivering the Bottom-Up Urban Resilience project of research and engagement
  • Manage the co-ordination of key research and engagement activities in the Bottom-Up Urban Resilience project
  • With the CIs, deliver the Bottom-Up Urban Resilience project research through co-design fieldwork, framework development, and the dissemination of materials and events

Who We Are Looking For
The successful candidate will be a collaborative and highly communicative professional with strong project management skills, capable of engaging with diverse stakeholders to drive urban resilience initiatives. They will demonstrate a commitment to building academic partnerships and contribute to outreach, public engagement, and scholarly dissemination activities.

You will also have:

  • A postgraduate degree (at PhD level) in a built environment or related discipline
  • Demonstrated capacity to work collaboratively
  • Demonstrated capacity to conduct urban fieldwork
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage projects with multiple stakeholders and objectives
  • High-level interpersonal and communication skills

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
