About the Role
The Integration Team delivers solutions for the research community, including a portal for managing virtual machines, data, and HPC resources. This role supports the Spartan HPC integration into the Research Computing Portal, offering a chance to develop cloud and storage technology skills while collaborating with the HPC team and Business Services for seamless delivery.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing, developing, and delivering software for the HPC Integration project based on functional specifications
- Collaborating with the Research Experience lead to conduct UAT and prioritise feedback for development
- Delivering work packages promptly within an agile framework, focusing on researcher and university needs
Who we are looking for
You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills for customer correspondence and documentation, strong problem-solving abilities, and a collaborative approach to teamwork. You will possess good scripting skills for daily management tasks, an understanding of agile development principles with tools like Jira and Confluence, and knowledge of secure coding practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
You will also have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Science, Computer Science or Software Engineering, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training
- Experience in developing advanced GUIs and web-based, database-driven applications using programming languages such as Python and JavaScript, along with the Django framework, and demonstrated expertise in HTML and CSS.
- Demonstrated Experience in one or more scripting languages such as Bash or PowerShell

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. This department is within Business Services. RCS delivers the digital research infrastructure and services for researchers at The University of Melbourne. We operate on-premises High-Performance Computing (HPC), Cloud Computing and General-Purpose Graphical Processing Unit (GPGPU) computational platforms. We operate over 20 PB of research data storage platforms to enable data-driven research and collaboration and a range of data management services. We provide a range of consultation services to support the development of custom computation and data management solutions. RCS also contributes to operating the ARDC Nectar Research Cloud, and we facilitate access to Australia’s national supercomputing facility NCI.
