About the Role
The Arts Teaching Innovation Team in the Faculty of Arts seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Curriculum Design and Academic Support with the capacity to bring pedagogical expertise and support to undergraduate and graduate teaching within the Faculty and across its five schools. The successful applicant will be a committed and engaging educator with experience of teaching at tertiary level. They will also have the opportunity to conduct scholarly activity or academic research that informs and enhances their teaching.
While there is some flexibility in the breakdown of work activity, an Education Focused Lecturer (Level B) in Curriculum Design and Academic Support should expect 40% of their time to be devoted to curriculum design and academic support, 20% to teaching, 20% to scholarship/research, and 20% to leadership and service.

The Arts Teaching Innovation Team
The aims of ATI align with the transformative aspirations of the Faculty, namely to enable high student engagement and performance, including through experiential learning and new models of academic support, embed a focus in our programs on students’ personal and professional development, including an emphasis on digital literacy, and build on the strengths of our diverse student body by weaving intercultural competence and Indigenous ways of knowing through our teaching’s broader teaching and learning strategy.
The aims of Arts Teaching Innovation are:
- To support the Faculty to be a leader in educational innovation in the fields of humanities, social sciences and language teaching.
- To contribute to teaching for the purpose of ensuring that curriculum design theory is aligned with classroom learning.
- To support academic staff within the Faculty to provide learning experiences for students that are active, research-led, industry engaged, digitally-literate, diverse and equitable and that enable students to achieve the University of Melbourne’s Graduate Attributes
- To ensure that developments in teaching within the Faculty are evidence-based by communicating and generating new research in higher educational design and by providing rigorous evaluation of teaching practice in the field of humanities, social science and languages.
- To assist Faculty academic staff to make appropriate and effective use of contemporary educational technologies, facilities and methods
- To foster a community of teaching practice across programs and schools and to connect the Faculty to excellence and innovation in teaching across the University and the wider sector.
- To assist in promotion of the Faculty’s teaching achievements and to engage with national and international scholarly discourse around teaching innovation in the field of humanities, social science and languages
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking candidates that demonstrate:
- A completed PhD in a relevant discipline, with a demonstrated specialisation in curriculum and pedagogy
- Demonstrated ability for excellence in teaching including the capacity for syllabus/curriculum design and subject (module) coordination
- Ability to supervise honours and postgraduate theses
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the learning orientations of a diverse student cohort, combined with the ability to apply this knowledge and understanding to create inclusive learning environments
- An emerging record of pedagogical and/or academic research that informs and enhances teaching practice
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage one’s own time effectively, work collaboratively, administer multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines successfully
