Join the Northern Clinical School as a Procedural Skills Teaching Specialist, where you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, hands-on training to the next generation of doctors.

Based at The Northern Hospital, you will support the coordination, teaching, assessment, timetabling, and curriculum development of procedural skills within the Melbourne Medical School’s Doctor of Medicine (MD) program. Working closely with teaching staff, clinical partners, and students, you will help ensure medical graduates are equipped with essential clinical skills that enhance patient care.

The Northern Clinical School is home to approximately 175 students and delivers all four years of the MD program. With access to a diverse range of medical, surgical, and specialty disciplines across Northern Health campuses in Broadmeadows, Bundoora, and Craigieburn, students benefit from a rich and varied clinical learning environment. Additionally, partnerships with La Trobe University, Northern Health Education Department, and Research Departments provide exciting opportunities to develop inter-professional, integrated models of health education and research.

This role reports directly to the Director of Medical Student Education and requires strong collaboration with Northern Health’s departments and units.

Please note, the successful incumbent must be available to work on Thursdays.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinate and provide teaching in the areas of procedural skills and resuscitation medicine for the MD students.
  • Liaise and consult with teaching, clinical, and professional staff within the Melbourne Medical School and Northern Clinical School regarding course/subject/clinical requirements.
  • Work closely with the school’s clinical nurse educators and MD Academic year level coordinators to coordinate and deliver the procedural skills program.
  • Prepare and deliver tutorials to MD students.
  • Supervise procedures on patients.
  • The production of conference and seminar papers and publications and presentations at conferences and seminars where appropriate.

You may be a great fit if:
We are looking for an experienced and clinically competent Registered Nurse to support medical education in a hospital setting. You will have a strong background in acute care, with expertise in procedural skills, resuscitation training, and patient bedside teaching. Experience in simulation-based education and student supervision is essential, along with familiarity with Northern Health protocols and clinical equipment. You will be skilled in engaging students, adapting teaching methods, and contributing to curriculum development and assessment. Strong interpersonal skills are key, enabling you to collaborate with medical professionals and support students from diverse backgrounds.

The Department of Medical Education was established as a department within the Melbourne Medical School in 2015. It has responsibility for the delivery of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) course, research in medical education and a range of professional development postgraduate and non-award programs.
