About the Role
The Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (MCM) is seeking a skilled and organised Technical Coordinator to oversee the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and inventory of the Faculty’s unique instrumentation collection. In this key role, you will ensure that students and staff have access to well-maintained, high-quality instruments that support the Faculty’s dynamic and diverse curriculum.
Working closely with the Senior Coordinator – Instrumentation and Recording, you will play an essential role in delivering hands-on inductions, demonstrations, and guidance on operational procedures, systems, and best practices related to music and instrumentation. Your expertise will help create an engaging and seamless learning experience for students and staff alike.
As part of the Programs & Operations Team, you will collaborate with colleagues across Workshops, Digital Media, Production and Facilities, Programming, and OH&S to support the Faculty’s teaching and learning programs. At times, you may also contribute to other operational areas to ensure the smooth delivery of programs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Deliver and maintain a high standard of instrumentation and equipment management systems that supports the Faculty’s key assets used for teaching and learning, research, and public events programs.
- Provide induction, instruction, and demonstration to users of instruments, equipment, studios, and other learning environments
- Maintain effective resource management, stock control and inventory systems to efficiently manage and maintain resources and equipment for the Faculty’s music programs.

Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking candidates that demonstrate:
- Completion of a degree with subsequent work experience, or an equivalent combination or relevant experience and/or education/training
- Demonstrated experience in maintaining an extensive range of musical instruments
- A comprehensive understanding of instrumentation practice and utilisation across the faculty’s breadth of discipline
- Demonstrated ability to maintain and coordinate budgets
- Excellent time management and forward planning skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to build strong internal relationships, and teamwork
- Demonstrated strong service orientation, and a commitment to innovative and continuous improvement
- Confident in use of Microsoft office applications
- Demonstrated ability in the coordination of staffing and technical resources to deliver projects on time
This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check.
The Team - Programs and Operations
The Programs and Operations (P&O) team within the Faculty of Fine Arts and Music is a dynamic work area, delivering services, support and technical expertise to academics, students, professional staff and stakeholders. The team operates predominantly at the Southbank Campus within Melbourne’s Arts Precinct, as well as the University’s Parkville Campus.
The team oversees program planning, delivery, and operational functions across the following areas: production and technical; event coordination; film and recording studios; asset, equipment and resource management; facilities maintenance and support; capital works and building projects; Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S), technical infrastructure; management of workshops, performance spaces, studios and galleries. The Programs and Operations team collectively ensures the effective planning and delivery of the Faculty's performance, creative and visual arts program, aligned with teaching & learning, research, and engagement priorities.
