About the Role
The Project Manager, Strategic Research Initiatives, drives the development of high-impact research initiatives at the University of Melbourne. The role involves managing major funding proposals and working with academic leaders and stakeholders to deliver mission-driven research programs with global impact.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead project management of major funding submissions, including proposal and budget development and approvals.
  • Support the project pipeline by conducting development activities to enhance proposal quality.
  • Coordinate internal teams to work collaboratively towards developing major bids.
  • Collaborate with researchers and stakeholders to map funding landscapes, develop funding strategies, and engage partners.
  • Conduct market analysis and capability mapping to identify trends and define needs aligned with University strengths.

Who we are looking for

You will demonstrate exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills to effectively manage projects and inspire teams. With strong decision-making and time management abilities, you will adeptly navigate changes and resolve challenges while maintaining strategic focus. Your interpersonal skills will enable you to build and maintain relationships, negotiate outcomes, and influence stakeholders, all while coordinating complex projects, managing risks, and executing change initiatives.

You will also have:

  • Post-graduate qualifications in a relevant and/or equivalent mix of education and relevant experience in innovation, technology, or science/medical discipline.
  • Significant experience in managing the development and submission of complex proposals and/or business plans for major funding in translational research.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-disciplinary projects, engaging and managing diverse stakeholders in a research environment.
  • Track record of developing successful funding strategies and bids, securing major funding for large-scale initiatives.
  • Appetite for learning and collaboration.

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
