About the Role

The Business Development Manager is a pivotal role, responsible for cultivating and strengthening strategic relationships while driving growth through innovative opportunities in a dynamic custom education sector. Collaborating closely with Faculties, Melbourne Professional Education (MPE), and Research, Innovation, and Commercialisation (RIC), playing a critical role in achieving our ambitious growth objectives. The BDM’s primary goal is to achieve sustainable revenue growth by identifying and executing high-value business opportunities for custom education programs and strategic industry engagement initiatives. The BDM is responsible for building and nurturing strong relationships with a diverse range of industry partners, both new and existing, to identify and capitalise on opportunities that drive revenue and contribute to the achievement of MPE’s short-medium and long-term strategic goals.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Demonstrate extensive experience and success in business development within the education sector, with a particular emphasis on custom education solutions and executing strategic growth initiatives.
  • Utilise exceptional stakeholder engagement skills to cultivate strong, collaborative relationships with both internal teams and external partners.
  • Navigate the complexities of the higher education sector, demonstrating a deep understanding of its nuances and prioritising exceptional service delivery to address evolving client needs and assess the quality of partnerships.
  • Develop and manage a comprehensive pipeline of existing and new opportunities, ensuring sustainable growth for MPE.
  • Contribute to strategic objectives by collaborating effectively across teams to achieve impactful outcomes.

Who we are looking for

To excel in this role, you will possess:

  • Strong commercial sales acumen and extensive experience in custom education, coupled with a growth mindset and a focus on achieving measurable results.
  • Expertise in pipeline development, prospecting, and managing strategic client relationships to drive business success.
  • A proven record in growth-oriented roles, demonstrating success in expanding client bases and optimising revenue streams.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, listening and negotiation skills, with proficiency in strategic thinking and development, business intelligence, and networking.
  • Experience in supporting the development and execution of business strategies to meet and surpass performance targets.
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills to effectively focus on key activities, including lead generation, prospect engagement, CRM updates, and reporting.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement, both in enhancing personal skills and refining organisational processes.

You will also have:

  • Undergraduate degree essential in a relevant discipline coupled with substantial commercial experience in a business development or commercial role, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.

This role requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
