You will have the opportunity to conduct ground-breaking research in fire behaviour within the renowned FLARE wildfire research group. By designing and executing laboratory and field experiments, developing simulations, and analysing data, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing our understanding of fire dynamics and predictive capabilities. This role offers the chance to publish your findings in leading journals and present at conferences, while collaborating with fire agency staff and stakeholders to drive real-world impact.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead Innovative Fire Behaviour Research: Design, prepare, and conduct laboratory and field experiments to investigate fire behaviour drivers and predictive models.
  • Perform Data Analysis and Modelling: Analyse fire behaviour data and develop simulations to advance our understanding of fire dynamics.
  • Contribute to Academic Publications: Publish research findings in high-impact journals and present at conferences and public forums.
  • Foster Collaborative Partnerships: Liaise with fire agencies, stakeholders, and research groups to integrate project design and foster collaborative partnerships.

You may be a great fit if you:

  • Possess a strong academic background in fire behaviour, combustion, fluid mechanics, or a related discipline, complemented by a passion for conducting impactful research.
  • Possess a Bachelor's degree or PhD in fire behaviour, fire risk, fire safety, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Demonstrate analytical skills and experience in designing, conducting experiments, and data analysis.
  • Have a proven aptitude for research with a strong publication record.
  • Exhibit the ability to work cooperatively in a multi-disciplinary research team environment.
  • Display strong organisational abilities to manage research projects and meet deadlines.

The School of Agriculture, Food and Ecosystem Sciences (SAFES) has a vision of science for flourishing environments and communities. The School brings together diverse discipline strengths to lead the development of new interdisciplinary thinking and highimpact solutions for global challenges relating to climate change, food security, healthy food systems, biodiversity conservation, sustainable forest management, invasive species, and environmentally and economically sustainable agricultural practices.
