Your new team – Atlantic Fellows for Social Equity
The Atlantic Fellows for Social Equity (AFSE) is an intercultural fellowship program committed to driving Indigenous-led social change to create fairer and more inclusive societies across Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand and the Pacific Island Nations. It achieves this by building, supporting and mobilising a dynamic community of change agents, known as Fellows.

Fellows begin their AFSE journey with a year of deep learning and personal growth. During this time, they pursue a Master of Social Change Leadership, exploring ideas, perspectives and research from Indigenous scholars, leaders and communities from across the Pacific and beyond.

Upon graduating, Fellows become lifelong members of the Global Atlantic Fellow community. This worldwide network, supported by the Atlantic Institute, provides ongoing opportunities for learning, networking and collaboration, supporting Fellows in their continued efforts to drive positive social change.

AFSE is a non-academic department in the Chancellery Division of the University of Melbourne. Its educational programs are delivered and awarded by the University's Faculty of Education.

About the Role
As Communications Lead for the Atlantic Fellows for Social Equity (AFSE), you will develop and deliver impactful communications strategies that highlight the transformational work of AFSE Fellows. • Leading a small communications team, coordinating contractors and agencies, and monitoring communication activity to evaluate success and improve future initiatives.
  • Collaborating with the Community Engagement Lead to organise program-stakeholder events, representing AFSE in relevant forums, and conducting research to identify new communication opportunities and technologies.

About You
You will have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience in crafting, proofing, and editing content, alongside strong creative thinking and problem-solving abilities. You will also bring significant expertise in developing and executing impactful communication or marketing strategies, creating engaging content for diverse audiences, and collaborating effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders.

You will also have:

  • A degree-level qualification in communications, marketing, or branding, combined with significant relevant experience, or an equivalent blend of education and training.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, as well as Māori and Pacific Island communities, including their cultures and ways of knowing and doing.
  • Proven ability to work with individuals and groups of varying media and communication experience, adapting to diverse engagement preferences.
