  • Provide site leadership for the delivery of high-quality clinical teaching and learning opportunities in Obstetrics, Gynaecology, and Newborn Health (OGN) within the Doctor of Medicine (MD) programme at the Mercy Hospital for Women or The Northern Hospital.
  • Contribute to shaping the next generation of medical professionals by coordinating and supporting clinical education in a dynamic, collaborative environment dedicated to excellence in teaching and learning within the field of women's health.

About the Role
You will work alongside the Department's Academic Co-ordinator for Learning and Teaching, with reporting to the Head of Department.

As the Site Co-ordinator, you will be responsible for the delivery of high-quality clinical teaching and learning opportunities in the OGN programme within the University's medical course.

This includes teaching delivery, student support, staff support, and personal development contributions.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver teaching sessions such as clinical skills coaching, case-based discussions, and simulation sessions.
  • Provide pastoral care and support to students, advocating for safe learning environments and access to placement activities.
  • Coordinate medical student electives at the site, including electives by non-University of Melbourne students. 
  • Support teaching fellows in delivering high-quality teaching and encourage their engagement in professional development activities.
  • Contribute to the L&T related administration of the Department, including participation in committees and strategic planning initiatives.

Who We Are Looking For
You will possess MRANZCOG (FRANZCOG desirable), with a special interest in Obstetrics, Gynaecology, and Newborn Health teaching and training.

You have a research publication track record in peer-reviewed journals, and you have completed or are completing a higher degree by research. Your flexibility, enthusiasm, and commitment to quality clinical teaching are evident.

You will also have:

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, staff, and students.
  • Strong team skills to work collaboratively with other educators and achieve excellent educational outcomes for students.
  • Experience in applying administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills to develop strategies and collaborative partnerships in teaching and research.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.

The University Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology, and Newborn Health plays a vital role in teaching MD medical students, with approximately 350 students spending 6 weeks each year in the department during their third year. The department's vision is to improve health around the world through research, education and clinical training in obstetrics, gynaecology and newborn health, with a mission to nurture great people and big ideas in teaching and research to lead and improve health outcomes globally in obstetrics, gynaecology and newborn health. The Department operates across a number of hospital sites, with its major centres being the Royal Women’s Hospital and the Mercy Hospital for Women. The department has a strong research focus in areas such as maternal foetal medicine, neonatal paediatrics, women's health, infectious diseases, gynaecological oncology, and reproductive biology.
