Marketing and Communications Manager (Part-Time)

About the Role
The Centre of Excellence for Biosecurity Risk Analysis (CEBRA), hosted by the University of Melbourne’s School of BioSciences, is seeking a communications specialist to lead the development of marketing and communication materials.

The role involves creating content for CEBRA's website, research newsletters, and social media platforms such as X and LinkedIn, as well as supporting conference promotions and stakeholder training.

You will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to promote new research projects, contribute to annual reports, and write media releases on biosecurity risk analysis advancements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Manage the marketing and communications for the Centre of Excellence for Biosecurity Risk Analysis (CEBRA) and Centre for Environmental and Economic Research (CEER).
  • Develop and execute strategies to build the public profile and professional image of Centre of Excellence for Biosecurity Risk Analysis.
  • Translate and summarise the complex science behind research projects into easy-to-understand pieces of writing for both the public and for CEBRA’s stakeholders (government and industry)
  • Consult with stakeholders to set up engagement initiatives to understand their requirements and views of CEBRA
  • Create distinct written and visual content that engages audiences and stakeholders about significant projects and project outputs.
  • Promote team-work and collaboration within CEBRA.

Who We Are Looking For
You will have a postgraduate qualification (or be working towards one) in marketing, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Exceptional communication skills are key, with a proven ability to convey complex scientific ideas to diverse audiences across platforms such as social media, newsletters, and conferences.

You will also have:

  • Experience facilitating or presenting at workshops and conferences
  • Extensive experience in translating scientific material into written and visual content that engages audiences and stakeholders.
  • Extensive experience in website development/maintenance and use of multiple social media platforms
  • Experience in developing promotional videos, newsletters and training resources

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
