About the Role
Join us as a Lecturer in the Media and Communications Program within the School of Culture and Communication, where you will have the opportunity to teach and conduct research in the rapidly evolving field of digital media and communications.

We are looking for a dynamic academic with expertise in digital media, digital platforms, internet communications, and/or digital cultural practices who can contribute to both our teaching and research objectives.

As part of a highly collaborative and active team of scholars, you will engage students at undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate levels. Drawing on your specialised knowledge, you will create engaging, student-focused classroom experiences that encourage scholarly inquiry and critical thinking in the digital age.

Your role will also include coordinating award programs, contributing to administrative duties, and promoting academic excellence.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Subject coordination including the academic and administrative supervision of sessional tutors
  • Curriculum design and innovation, including cross-disciplinary approaches
  • The development of technology-based teaching, learning and assessment programs and resources
  • Attracting teaching and learning innovation grants (with emphasis on national competitive and peer reviewed)
  • Conducting research, resulting in outputs including (but not limited to) peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and books
  • Attracting research grants and external research income (emphasis on competitive, international and peer-reviewed)
  • The supervision of research degrees
  • An active engagement in service, leadership and coordination roles in the discipline

Who We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will have a proven teaching and research track record with high-quality publications in the field and a passion for advancing knowledge in the areas of digital media, digital platforms, internet communications, and/or digital cultural practices and relations.

You will also have:

  • A PhD in a relevant discipline that is completed or that is nearing completion
  • Demonstrated ability for excellence in teaching including the capacity for syllabus development
  • Ability to teach at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
  • Ability to supervise honours and postgraduate coursework degree theses
  • Ability to or potential to supervise higher research degrees theses
  • A strong record of research in the areas of digital media, digital platforms, internet communications, and/or digital cultural practices and relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to create a highly inclusive learning environment

The Media and Communications Program at UoM
Media and Communications at the University of Melbourne is a major in the Bachelor of Arts, with subjects focusing on media and communications theory, digital media environments, media writing, and media and communications research. Our graduate coursework degrees, the Master of Global Media Communications and the Master of Marketing and Communications, offer both vocationally focused and theoretically grounded subjects that prepare students for careers in the media, marketing and communications industries.
