As required by clause 1.15.9 of the 2024 EA, current casual or fixed-term employees of the University will be provided with 7 days of prior opportunity to apply for and be considered for vacant continuing positions if they meet the following criteria:

About the Role
The Australian BioCommons is seeking a Cybersecurity Specialist to lead the development and maintenance of security policies, processes, and compliance measures for sensitive data platforms in environmental, agricultural, and biomedical science. This role will focus on attaining ISO27001 certification for human data management, aligning with HIPAA and other security frameworks, and supporting the deployment of new technologies like Gen3. The Specialist will work independently with technical teams and leadership to ensure the quality and security of BioCommons' digital infrastructure.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and define incident response procedures, working with developers and technical teams on their implementation
  • Inform and influence code development processes, system design and cloud architecture and CI/CD deployment pipelines
  • Collaborate closely with the technical team on security operations, and ensure adherence to procedures
  • Make recommendations on AWS cloud deployment and architectures to align and comply with the required quality and security frameworks

Who We Are Looking For

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical security issues to stakeholders. They will have a collaborative approach, hands-on experience with security technologies, and a deep understanding of security policies, risk management, and industry standards, including ISO 27001 and HIPAA regulations.

You will also have:

  • A related Bachelor degree or equivalent TAFE certification (Information Technology, Cyber Security etc) OR minimum 5 years experience working in Cyber Security
  • Hands-on experience in design and operating various security technologies/solutions
  • Experiences in designing and implementing required security controls in hybrid environments to align with industry standards

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.
