About the Role
Provide crucial, evidence-based best practice wellbeing support to enhance the academic and personal success of a diverse student community. This autonomous role involves engaging with students through one-on-one and group sessions, providing high-quality administrative support, managing complex cases, and contributing to the development of wellbeing strategies. You will collaborate closely with the faculty and university services, cultivating relationships to ensure comprehensive support and serving as a key liaison for academic and professional staff.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting and engaging in outreach activities, providing one-to-one and one-to-many support to at-risk students, encouraging their academic engagement and success through collaborative problem-solving.
  • Maintaining comprehensive knowledge of university policies, procedures, issues and activities relevant to the area of responsibility. Contributing to developing strategies and systems aimed at enhancing student wellbeing.
  • Acting as a direct point of contact for faculty and academic staff, referring students to support services, and collaborating within and across areas to ensure smooth case referrals and avoid duplication of services.
  • Collaborating with staff in the Unit, Faculty, University, and externally to build influential relationships and achieve positive outcomes, while delivering high-quality administrative and in-person support and programmes.

Who We Are Looking For
You combine independent, strategic problem-solving with a deep understanding of holistic well-being, showing compassion and empathy in all interactions. Your strong organisational abilities, attention to detail, and effective project management skills will enable you to prioritise and manage tasks within deadlines. You will also demonstrate independent judgement in problem-solving, while maintaining sensitivity, discretion, and confidentiality. Dedicated to promoting self-efficacy in students, you are adaptable, receptive to guidance, and ready to leverage the support around you.

You also have:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification coupled with substantial, pertinent experience, or a combination of relevant work experience and/or education/training.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and verbal communication skills, proficient in cultivating and strengthening relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional organisational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and adept project management abilities to ensure efficient prioritisation, management, and timely completion of tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently apply informed judgement and strategic problem-solving skills to effectively resolve complex issues.
  • Proficiency in navigating bureaucratic processes, experience managing ambiguity, with a comprehensive grasp of systems and institutional practices.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.

Your New Team – The Faculty of Business and Economics
The Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Melbourne has been preparing students for exciting and challenging careers in industry since 1924. The Faculty has an active board of business leaders, government representatives and community leaders who contribute to the implementation of our vision.

The Academic Programs team is part of Academic Services in the Faculty of Business and Economics. The team has responsibility for the timely delivery of process outcomes related to the faculty’s degree programs including supporting curriculum development through providing secretarial support to several committees, managing the annual course and subject change process and by authorising all approved Handbook changes. The team also manages academic misconduct committees, academic board appeal responses, internal course transfer applications, and faculty dual degree programs. They work with colleagues in the faculty’s teaching departments to ensure clash free subject sets in the student timetable and on the collection and publication of data for the Subject Learning Surveys. They support staff and students in providing timely responses to assignment extension requests and eligible special consideration applications. Additionally, the team provides admissions services for the faculty’s Honours and Doctoral programs and supports the Associate Dean (Teaching and Learning) to effectively respond to the TALQAC review of academic programs.
