Strategic Communications Manager, ADNeT

About the Role
The Strategic Communications Manager provides strategic support and advice to the ADNeT Management on communication and engagement issues, ensuring coherent messaging across all program communications and activities. Reporting to the ADNeT Chief Operating Officer, the incumbent will collaborate closely with the ADNeT Team to raise awareness within the dementia research community and the public. This position requires a proven track record in delivering high-quality change communications within large, complex environments and involves developing strong relationships with stakeholders across ADNeT’s extensive partner network.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide specialist strategic advice to the ADNeT Management Committee on Communications Program implementation and innovation.
  • Engage with critical partners including the Australian Government, researchers, clinicians and people living with dementia and their carers on ADNeT programs 
  • Manage end to end communications: identifying key audiences and their information requirements, developing communication materials for presentation and distribution, liaising with media, managing ADNeT social media and website, and advising the Program Team on communications structure, content and integration. 

Who We Are Looking For
The successful candidate will possess expert strategic communications planning and execution skills, demonstrated leadership and communication abilities, and mastery of written and verbal communication for various channels. They will excel in building strong relationships with diverse stakeholders, managing competing priorities in complex environments, and translating complex ideas into simple messages, with the ability to provide strategic advice to management.

You will also have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Communications or related discipline and extensive relevant experience
  • Expert knowledge of strategic communications planning and execution
  • Extensive experience and ability to build strong relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders with the ability to influence and manage multiple stakeholders
  • Proven ability to successfully lead and manage competing priorities in a complex environment to deliver within a defined timeframe and budget

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.

The Australian Dementia Network (ADNeT) sits within the University of Melbourne’s Florey Department of Neuroscience and Mental Health, located in the Melbourne Biomedical Precinct. Florey facilitates partnerships with international, government and scientific leaders. Its proximity to Austin Health and the Royal Melbourne Hospital provides access to patients and clinical expertise. Florey researchers collaborate across disciplines, with 70% focused on basic science and 30% on translational research, investigating a range of diseases including epilepsy, stroke, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, and mental health disorders.
