About the Role
The role at Melbourne Bioinformatics focuses on supporting life science researchers in utilising Galaxy Australia within the Parkville Precinct. This involves developing and delivering training materials, publicizing Galaxy Australia, collaborating with researchers to develop workflows, and contributing to building the Galaxy Australia toolshed. The incumbent will work closely with Precinct stakeholders, national colleagues, and the broader Galaxy community to ensure effective utilisation of digital infrastructure and to facilitate research advancements in the life sciences.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of significant software development and deployment projects and methodologies in support of Galaxy Australia.
  • Contribute to building the Galaxy Australia Tool Shed.
  • Engage with key stakeholders from associated research teams across universities, research institutes and hospitals.
  • Engage with key stakeholders from associated computational infrastructure providers

Who We Are Looking For
You will excel in this role if you are personable and enjoy engaging with people, particularly in teaching and passing on knowledge. Your outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, along with your ability to build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders, will enable successful collaboration and engagement both internally and externally.

You will also have:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience as a practising bioinformatician, including significant experience with method and tool development, and data analyses
  • Extensive experience in training documentation and teaching in a complex informatics environment such as a research institute, clinical setting, or a research support facility, working on major research and/or clinical projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop clear, accurate and useful administrator, developer and user and training documentation and to be able to interact with and provide advice to users.
  • A commitment to develop, produce and implement documentation which adheres to principles of Human Centred Design for Research as implemented by the University of Melbourne’s Research Gateway.
