This position is a professional development opportunity for University of Melbourne staff. Only current Continuing, Fixed-Term, and Casual staff are eligible to apply. About -Murrup Barak
Murrup Barak means ‘the spirit of Barak’ in Woiwurrung language. We chose this name to honour the memory of William Barak – a visionary Wurundjeri leader. 

Murrup Barak has a diverse team delivering on our objectives and annual priorities in support of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student cohort. We work closely with colleagues across the Student and Scholarly Services division, Chancellery, and Indigenous Leadership of the University to achieve outcomes in Indigenous outreach, engagement, and student support. Murrup Barak also delivers wellbeing, cultural, social, and academic support services, such as the Indigenous Tutorial Access Scheme to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at any stage in their degree. 

The purpose of Murrup Barak is to provide a safe, responsive, and empowering service to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.  We support First Peoples both interested in higher education and currently enrolled at The University of Melbourne. 

About the Role
Join our dynamic team as the Coordinator of Access and Participation! In this role, you'll be at the heart of collaboration, partnering with key professionals in Murrup Barak, Future Students, Admissions, and Faculties. Your mission? Implement policy, manage crucial documentation, and dive deep into data analysis. You'll serve as a beacon of advice and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants, ensuring their journey is smooth from start to finish.

Reporting to the Director of Murrup Barak, you'll have the autonomy to shine independently while also thriving in a team environment. Initiative is key as you handle documentation, manage inquiries, and tackle administrative tasks head-on. Your ability to prioritise and communicate effectively will be instrumental in resolving challenges and keeping operations running seamlessly. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing the collection, verification, and storage of documents for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students using internal University systems.
  • Ensuring the authenticity of student documents, including detecting and evaluating potential falsification, and offering strategic recommendations to senior management.
  • Offering extensive support to current and prospective students, families, and school staff by promptly and effectively addressing inquiries.
  • Collaborate with community members, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander organizations, and Elders as required.

About You
We're in search of an administrative expert renowned for their attention to detail and precision. If you've navigated similar roles before, mastering complex tasks and advising on policies, you're exactly who we need. While teamwork is essential, the ability to work independently is valued. Your organisational prowess and problem-solving will ensure seamless management of tasks and deadlines. You'll be an effective communicator and go above and beyond in delivering outstanding customer service.

You will also have:

  • A bachelor's degree with relevant work experience, or a comparable blend of experience and education/training.
  • Display advanced computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office suite, particularly Word and Excel, and familiarity with tools like Qualtrics and Zoo
  • Contribute effectively to problem-solving initiatives and exhibit adaptability in reviewing and enhancing processes.
  • Showcase exceptional organisational abilities, adept at successfully juggling multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Exhibit strong computer skills, especially in database management and Microsoft applications.
  • Demonstrate a track record of handling confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
